England Captain Ben Stokes Confident of Fitness Ahead of Ashes Summer

England Test captain Ben Stokes has expressed confidence in his fitness, stating that he feels he is back in the same form he displayed in 2019 and 2020. As England prepares for a packed Ashes summer, Stokes believes he is in a position to make a significant impact both with the bat and ball.

Stokes played a pivotal role during the last Ashes series when Australia visited England, and since assuming the captaincy, he has led England to a remarkable turnaround, winning 10 out of 12 Tests under his leadership. However, he faced injury concerns in recent months, which limited his participation in the IPL 2023 campaign. Nonetheless, Stokes is now optimistic about his physical condition and his ability to contribute effectively to the team.

In a conversation with the ICC, Stokes emphasized his current state of fitness, saying, "I have positioned myself to ensure I have no regrets and that I give myself the best opportunity to play a full role with the ball this summer. I feel like I am back in the same physical condition as I was in 2019 and 2020." He acknowledged the difference between mental and physical aspects but expressed confidence in having prepared himself adequately.

England is scheduled to play a one-off Test against Ireland before the highly-anticipated Ashes series against Australia. Stokes confirmed his commitment to participating in all the games, stating, "Unless I am physically unable to play, I will be out on the field." His determination and dedication to the team are evident as he aims to lead from the front during the crucial series.

The England team's recent success, marked by the adoption of the Bazball mantra, has garnered attention and speculation regarding its sustainability. Stokes addressed this, emphasizing that the team would continue to play in the same aggressive manner, regardless of the higher stakes in the Ashes. He stated, "We have found a winning formula that suits our team and individuals. While it may not always work, we will stick to our style because it has proven successful. Our approach will not change based on the opposition."

As the Ashes summer approaches, all eyes will be on Ben Stokes as he aims to replicate his outstanding performances from previous years. With his renewed fitness and unwavering commitment, England hopes to maintain their winning momentum and retain the prestigious Ashes urn.
